Talking on the phone
What do I have to do to use my phone in Puerto Rico?

Probably nothing except to double check your cell phone plan to make sure it covers Puerto Rico automatically!
Almost all U.S. cell phone plans (including AT&T) cover it, because Puerto Rico is considered part of the domestic coverage area, meaning you won't incur roaming charges for calls, texts, or data! As a result, you probably do NOT need to sign up for an international plan.
(Puerto Rico is part of the United States. It is not a state, but a U.S. territory, which evidently counts in establishing cell phone coverage areas!)
In Puerto Rico, there is a wide-area 4GLTE network and a more limited 5G network. In remote areas of the Island, cellular service and data coverage can be spotty, so plan accordingly.
