Do I need a passport?

No, passports are not necessary for U.S Citizens living on the mainland and traveling to Puerto Rico because U.S. Citizens are regarded as being in the United States in Puerto Rico.
But,
1. if you are 18 or older, you need a REAL ID or a passport to board the plane
2. if you are under 18, you need a valid form of identification to board the plane, such as a school ID with a picture, a driver's license, a state ID, a birth certificate, or a passport
Plus,
3. if you are under 18 and flying with only one of your parents, you should have a permission statement from your parent's spouse to fly with the parent (This may not be needed, but . . .)
4. if you are under 18 and flying without any parents, you should have a permission statement to fly with the LAUMC group and its chaperones
And
5. everyone should have a medical release form allowing the LAUMC chaperones to obtain medical treatment for you during the trip if necessary
Timothy will provide the appropriate forms.
